About

a little more about me...

I’ve always been drawn to water, and it’s not an exaggeration to say that paddle boarding has changed my life. It gives me a route into feeling alive in the present moment, free of expectation, among like-minded, adventurously spirited people.

Invariably, it gives me a new perspective, appreciation for the natural world and respect for the inevitable turning of the tide, as well as a temporary escape from technology. There’s a saying: paddle more, worry less – and after every paddle, I feel renewed.

I first paddled on flat water in 2015, while working as an au pair for a German family in Bavaria, living by the Ammersee, a glacier water lake. I knew I’d discovered something I could get a lot out of.

More recently, I’ve been learning to surf at some of my favourite beaches in the UK, like Saunton Sands and Croyde in Devon, Bracklesham Bay in West Sussex and Gwithian Towans beach in Devon.

I’m a huge believer in the positive mental, physical and spiritual health benefits of time spent in blue spaces. It’s good for the soul.

A growing body of scientific research into the “blue health” phenomenon backs this up, and explores the benefits of outdoor blue spaces, like lakes, rivers, the sea and canals, on wellbeing.

For me personally, my enjoyment of blue spaces allows me to live a happier, healthier and more active life – a more sustainable life, in tune with nature and the planet.

I hope reading my Paddling Madeleine blog inspires you too as I seek out new experiences on the water, like learning to surf, sail and open water swim, acquainting myself with the wind and the waves.

I can’t wait to update you on my journey towards becoming a fully qualified SUP and yoga instructor, and to discover where my search for adventures and wellbeing, anywhere there’s water, takes me next.

See you on the water (or on the mat),

Maddi x
